Development Management Associates and Perimeter Architects of Chicago approached Lyn Godley Design Studio to develop a Lighting Installation concept for the Atrium of 900 North Michigan Shops, an up-scale multi-level shopping mall located in the Gold Coast District of Chicago. The concept allowed for projection upon sculptural sheer scrim panels suspended in the atrium, with as little visual blocking as possible. Using a cable and panel system and semi-transparent triangular scrims, Godley created a sculptural effect and a dynamic color and media canvas. Digital mapping and focused content from multiple projectors could lead the viewer’s eye throughout the mall’s multiple levels acting as a wayfinding tool for retailers and shoppers.
